Braves Opening Day block party to return to Summerhill neighborhood
ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - For the second year in a row, the Braves hosted a giant block party in the historic Summerhill neighborhood to celebrate Opening Day.
On March 27, the Braves will face off against the San Diego Padres in California — and Atlantans will cheer on their hometown heroes along Georgia Avenue. The block party delivered live performances, a watch party, lawn games, food and drinks from local restaurants, visits from Braves icons like Blooper and more.
The Braves County Road Trip: An All-Star Experience, which is touring across the Southeast, will make a stop at the block party. It features previous All-Star memorabilia, photo opportunities and the opportunity to autograph a giant baseball, which will be displayed at Truist Park during MLB All-Star Week.
At the event, fans were able to enter sweepstakes to win a pair of tickets to any 2025 MLB All-Star Week events, such as the T-Mobile HBCU Swingman Classic and Celebrity Softball Game. You were also able to win a one-night stay near Truist Park and two tickets to the Capital One All-Star Village.
“Of course we got to be there. If we can’t be at the park, then we might as well be where everyone else is at,” said Djenne Jenkins, who attended the Summerhill Block Party.
Atlanta Braves fans are just getting started this year. The season opener against the San Diego Padres brought fans together for the Summerhill Block Party, hosted by the very team they’re supporting.
“It’s just joyous to be out here seeing everyone support them on the away game. It’s dope,” said Pastor Troy, a Georgia based rapper.
Pastor Troy said Atlanta is ready for the Braves to go all the way this season.
“Man, this season we really got World Series expectations. I have World Series expectations every year,” said Pastor Troy.
“I think that we got unfinished business,” said Chris Jenkins, who attended the Summerhill Block Party.
Chris Jenkins said growing up in South Carolina, the Braves are dubbed the team of the south.
“My earliest sports memory was the Braves-Yankees World Series in 1993. So it’s always been apart of me,” Jenkins said.
Even with a 7-4 upset from San Diego Padres, John-Stephen Vaughn said his support will last a lifetime.
“This is my team. I got them tatted on my side. I’ve been a Braves fan forever. So I’m just excited. I’m ready for this year going for a world championship. Lets go Braves,” John-Stephen Vaughn, who attended the Summerhill Block Party.
“ATL I love you. Support the Braves. Let’s go!” Pastor Troy said.
“Go Braves, lets do it this year, 2025,” said the Vaughns.
