2 women attacked in attempted kidnapping on vacation while walking back to their Airbnb

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC/Gray News) - A night out turned terrifying for two women who say they were attacked while vacationing in downtown Savannah.

Aubrey Warpool and Makenzie Cave were on their way back to their Airbnb after a night out at a bar near Bay Street when the attack happened.

According to a police report filed on June 8, the women were walking for about 20 minutes when a tall man came from behind and grabbed Cave, throwing her to the ground.

Authorities said the women told them that the man then dragged Cave by the hair, while Warpool started to fight back, hitting him and screaming.

After the man released Cave, the two began running while he took off in the opposite direction.

First responders took Cave to the hospital. She had a large gash on her legs and what appeared to be a handprint on her throat.

The women said their attacker may have been a man they had spotted earlier in the evening while they were out. But they did not know him.

The attack left Cave with visible bruises and what she says is temporary nerve damage on her legs from being dragged.

The women claim the attacker was pulling so hard that he ripped Cave’s pants and underwear as she tried to get away that night. They said the man was also not wearing any pants.

Savannah police are calling what happened an attempted kidnapping.

Madison Alvarez, who lives near the area where the attack happened, says she was shocked to hear about such an incident.

“I go downtown, I go to the bars, I have walked, I walked that before,” she said. “I always thought it was a safe area … I guess obviously it’s not, at night at least.”

The description of the attacker is vague, but he was believed to be a tall, slender man, around 6 feet tall, with dark skin while wearing a gray hoodie.

The victims said he also had a deep voice.

If anyone has any information about the man in question, they can contact the Savannah Police Department at 912-651-6675.
